A Civic Technologist's Practice Guide

Early volunteer civic tech efforts reflected the demographics of people who had the time and means to do free work, and in particular skewed toward engineers and open-source contributors. All of these categories tend to be whiter, more male, and more affluent than American society at large—and for a field that aspires to make technology for everyone, this is a problem.
