Amazon’s tenet of “respect what came before” includes a reminder that “many problems are not essentially new.” You’ll come up with better solutions if you study what other people have already done before creating some new thing. Remember that your goal is to solve the problem, not necessarily to write code to solve it. Take the time to understand what already exists—inside and outside your organization—before building something new.
